The Gables is a treasure among bed and breakfasts. It’s found in Duddo in North Northumberland and owns all the period charm that you would hope to find in this great area of natural beauty and notable heritage.

The house itself dates from 1867. A Victorian property, it was Duddo's Vicarage until, in 1957, it finally became a private home. Angus and Claire welcome you to The Gables, where you will find yourself enjoying all the period characteristics of the house and area. The house is surrounded by unspoiled beauty, with uninterrupted, expansive views to the Cheviot Hills.

There are two beautiful rooms. The Tweed, named for the famous river which known for its good Salmon fishing, and The Till, named a for tributary of The Tweed which is great for those who’d rather be catching trout. Your room will either have en suite facilities or a private bathroom. Both rooms are double, and were meticulously refurbished in 2012. Aside from enjoying the period features and details of your room, you’ll also have luxury beds and the use of Wi-Fi. Rooms also have hot drink facilities and a hospitality tray. Of course, you’ll have digital TV which you can enjoy while sitting in an antique chair.

Breakfast is made from as much local produce as possible and can be enjoyed in the dining room or, weather permitting, on the lovely terrace with its own grand views. The Study Sitting Room, which also boasts spectacular views, is ideal for a bit or reading, rest or cosy conversation.

Being located in North Northumberland, only eight miles from Berwick upon Tweed, many who choose The Gables, come to enjoy more than the local hospitality. It’s an area rich with castles, ruins and natural beauty. For walking, cycling and fishing there are few better spots in Europe. And the same can be said for golfing, shooting and birdwatching. Northumberland’s coast is one of the great treasures of England, and you’ll be close enough to take a trip out to the famous Farne Islands.
